Fontenelle Forest is also a great place to take children! From their indoor playground to the childrens exploration area, your kids are sure to have a blast.
Great organization and place to visit. Always has new and exciting exhibits. For instance, we just left a Harry Potter / Hogwarts day where we had a great experience and they went all out for this! Definitely worth checking out.
My only word of warning is stay on the trails! Stinging nettles are an abundant natural plant in this area and there is plenty of them here! Besides, why leave a new footprint in an otherwise pristine forest?
We had a great time hiking on the boardwalk with my father who was in town. Many squirrels foraging and quite a few deer during our hike. The employees were great in offering information about the Raptors and we spent quite a bit of time disgusting food and care for the birds.

Wonderful sanctuary to experience nature. There's a well maintained boardwalk I navigate with my 400# powered wheel chair that follows the hills for miles. Also have very informative signs through out the boardwalk and a bird sanctuary.
All the employees are courteous and friendly, however the real attraction is the beauty of a near pristine Nebraska environment. History surrounds you on every trail, and the masterfully crafted boardwalk is filled with historical information on their signage as well as information about the flora and fauna in the area.
Beautiful trails. Came here as a boyscout and it hasn't changed since. I live it. Quiet secluded. Good place to come and find peace.
With a short drive from Omaha, Fontenelle forest is a great way to just get away from crowded city life and enjoy the outdoors in a serene environment.
